Cool Stories Behind New Beatles Videos

What were the first music videos? "Promos" made by the Beatles nearly fifty years ago.

No one's probably more surprised than the remaining Beatles that these early videos -- material they thought was basically disposable -- would not only still be around but also presented in this great new package, Beatles 1+.

The Fab Four started making these "mini movies" to promote their records. But they also became an alternative to touring, since it became so difficult for the Beatles to travel and tour since they were mobbed wherever they went. The movies gave fans access to the Beatles in the absence of tours.

It's great to hear director Michael Lindsay-Hogg talk about his work with the band during their early, more innocent period. But then he went on to direct the epic Let It Be, in which the fab four were far less innocent. Indeed, they unwittingly exposed their tumultuous breakup in that movie.
