8 Amazing Songs From Lowell George, Allen Toussaint and...Robert Palmer?

Allen Toussaint's recent passing got us thinking about some of the funkiest New Orleans music ever to be laid down by a ....white Englishman. His name was Robert Palmer, and in 1974 he released the classic album "Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley."

This was before "Addicted to Love," before "Simply Irresistible" and before the cheesy '80s MTV videos with guitar-wielding models. Early in his career Palmer went down to New Orleans to cut tracks at Toussaint's studio (Sea-Saint) with a world-beating rhythm section made up of The Meters and Lowell George.

The album kicks off with a version of Little Feat's "Sailing Shoes" featuring Lowell on slide. The third track is a deeply funky, Meters-inflected version of Toussaint's song "Sneakin' Sally."

Bottom line: If you love funky New Orleans music, you need to get a copy of Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley today! Here's where you can find a copy on Amazon.

I always thought this was the best funk/Feat/Meter/Palmer album of all. The trilogy of Sneakin is mind blowing good. It is true yes that the next two albums also featured many of the same players but so did the forth. FOR THOSE UNSURE OF THE ALBUM NAMES: Sneakin" Sally Through The Alley Pressure Drop Some People Can Do What They Like Double Fun Each album has at least one Little Feat/Lowell George tune. Palmer actually toured briefly with Little Feat as his backing band, opening for Little Feat!!!!

Love this album one of my favorites. Love Little Feat, Lowell George, Allan Toussaint and the Meters too. My kind of music (but I am from New Orleans)

We Learned the Sailin' Shoes/Hey Julia/Sneakin' Sally trilogy when it first came out. It brought the house down every night.

Love this album, and I still have it! The trilogy is amazing. At the time, I had never heard of Little Feat or Lowell George. All that was about to change...
