What Makes Bonnie Raitt So Great?

We love Bonnie Raitt here at Gooseneck HQ!

From her early albums like Takin' My Time to her breakthrough Nick of Time she's put out a string of great records over the years. Her latest is called Dig In Deep, and it sounds great.

We love the way Bonnie combines R&B, blues, soul, funk, reggae -- basically all the good stuff -- into a funky sound that's all her own. Add to that her killer singing, at turns sexy, sassy and soulful. And don't forget her signature slide guitar, a sound as instantly recognizable as her voice.

She came up in that period in the '70s when many amazing singer-songwriters and bands were emerging out of Southern California, including Jackson Browne, Randy Newman, The Eagles and Little Feat.

Bonnie worked a lot with Lowell George and Little Feat. Here's an old video from the Midnight Special show with Bonnie singing backgrounds on the classic "Dixie Chicken."

What's the Best Bonnie Raitt Record?

Bonnie has many great records from her career, including chart-toppers Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw.

But we love her early stuff too. Takin' My Time from 1973 is one of our favorite Bonnie records. Lowell George actually started out as its producer, and he plays on much of it, along with other members of Little Feat. If you haven't heard it, you've gotta check it out.

We also love the fact that Bonnie records her albums with her road band, which includes Ricky Fataar (drums), George Marinelli (guitar), Hutch Hutchinson (bass) and Jon Cleary (keys). Here's a recent video of Bonnie in the recording studio with her band and David Lindley cutting a Jackson Browne song:
